Monarch Place Services and Solutions
Offering shelter and support for women and children fleeing violence
"Almost every woman who calls needs help - the question is are we the ones to help her?"
Our
priority for service is for women who are in danger of being abused and
need to hide. Many women who are having trouble with a spouse need a
place to stay, but don't need our security. We are here primarily for
women and children who are living with the abuser and need to leave the
home and be hidden. Our program can best deal with a woman who is
currently in danger and needs immediate help.
Women who are abused a year or two ago and are now homeless do not meet our primary criteria; we
can give them emergency housing referrals. There is more emergency
housing available than there is confidential shelter spaces. We offer a
highly specialized service and program. We cannot help everyone.
We:
- Are equipped to welcome 12 women and children at one time.
- Offer a safe and secure environment.
- Are staffed 24 hours per day by caring professionals trained to help women and children through crisis and transition.
- Are able to meet immediate needs of food, clothing, and shelter.
- Are
a vital support through counseling, referrals to other agencies and
networks in the community, life skills training, and advocacy
assistance.
- Offer "The Butterfly Room", a children's program that provides a safe and caring atmosphere for children in the house.
- Are funded by the Ministry of Housing and Social Development.
- Are operated by W.I.N.G.S. (Women in Need Gaining Strength) Society.
